Danvers, MA June 2016 – United Martial Arts Center recently did a kick-a-thon for St. Jude in Saturday June during the Endicott Park Family Festival to raise funds and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. Sponsored by United Martial Arts Center, the kick-a-thon featured 40 students that raised $10,000.00 this year for the charity. They also had a cookie decorating table and raffles where the children helped out to raise additional money for the charity.
This is the 15th year that United Martial Arts Center has held the Martial Arts for St. Jude program. “We are thankful to the community for supporting our Martial Arts for St. Jude event,” said Sifu Rita Rose Pasquale, the event coordinator. “Our studio focuses on teaching children empathy by doing community service and at the same time we also were able to teach our supporters about the great work conducted daily at St. Jude. The hospital is truly committed to the mission of finding cures and saving children.”
United Martial Arts Center has raised more than $77,000.00 since it began the Martial Arts for St. Jude program in 1999. Sifu Rita Rose Pasquale was recently invited to participate in St. Jude's "Volunteer Appreciation Day" in Memphis Tennessee, where she spent the day touring the hospital and meeting with over 200 volunteers from around the country. The trip has inspired Sifu to take on a new mission for St. Jude " Our studio will now be fundraising all year long and what we studio raised in 11 years - lets try to do it in one with the community."
Since opening in 1962, St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and around the world. No child is ever denied treatment because of a family’s inability to pay. With a daily operating cost of $1.7 million, St. Jude depends mostly on public contributions and fundraising events, like the Martial Arts for St. Jude event.
